Software
There is a wide selection of touch screen (and mouse operated) jukebox software on the market – but these are my favourites… I’m planning to write a full review of each piece of software soon, so watch this space!
AlbumPlayer
http://www.albumplayer.com (€29.50)
Quite simply, the best jukebox software I’ve come across. With a new version just out. AlbumPlayer is the prettiest of all the options below.
This software is the quickest and easiest to get your jukebox up and running. It has two modes, a mouse and touch version. The mouse version can be skinned and used just like any normal MP3 collection. When you change in to “touch” mode the buttons become bigger and you have a new look.
FreeBox Jukebox
www.freeboxjukebox.com ($25 USD)
This software allows you to play the usual MP3s but also has a nice feature of being able to play music videos and karaoke! The configuration is very simple and allows you to lock out individual buttons (which is useful in a party atmosphere!)
Nordbeat’s Jukebox
www.nordbeat.com (Shareware / $49.99USD)
Whilst Norbeat’s Jukebox might not be the prettiest of the software options, it has a great back-end. The management of albums is confusing at first, but once you get your head around where everything is, it’s brilliant. It took around 50 minutes to index 8099 songs in my music folder… which I think is pretty good. Nordbeat also comes with a built in peer-to-peer sharing network for album covers and (I think) artist images.
Nordbeat’s Jukebox also comes with a web server built in which allows you to control the playlists etc from your network or even iPhone / mobile device via the web connection.
Nordbeat also comes with a “bar mode” which allows you to use credits and set the jukebox in to a readonly type of function. You can download the software and use it for 100 tracks for free… or pay $49.99 to unlock the full version.
iTunes Jukebox Plugin
I’m currently working on a plugin for iTunes which will turn iTunes in to a jukebox. It sits on top of iTunes and limits many features, only allowing users the ability to add to a playlist. Read more about it here.
